Polydimethylsiloxane-coated partitioning sample collection device for the precise quantification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in air

Abstract: A novel partitioning collection device comprising a glass cartridge packed with poly(dimethylsiloxane)-coated macroporous silica particles was developed for the precise quantification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in air. The analyte collection and elution performances achieved using different amounts of poly(dimethylsiloxane) coating were quantitatively evaluated. The sample retention power increased with increasing the coating, and more than 250 L of air could be collected without analyte breakthrough … Show more

“…As was found in previous work, PAHs with low vapor pressure are retained on quartz fiber filters as PM, and they remain on the filter during air sampling. 20,21 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 9 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 10 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 Air sampling volume: 5000 L, sampling temperature: 35 C. “…This result is in good agreement with those in a previous study. 20 Separated quantification of PAHs trapped on quartz fiber filter and adsorbent could be have meaning for understanding the component of PM and gas-particle distribution of PAHs.…”

“…Our research group developed extraction devices for collecting SVOCs from air samples. To achieve simple, rapid, and quantitative elution of collected SVOCs, we introduced solid-phase extraction (SPE)-type collection devices, in which distribution-based adsorbents were used to determine sesquiterpenes [15] and PAHs [16,17]. Recently, we developed a SPE-type collection device packed with Sunpak-H, styrene-divinylbenzene polymer particles, as an adsorbent for collecting airborne terpenes [18] and PAHs [19].…”

“…We have developed a solid-phase extraction-type (SPE-type) collection device for the collection of airborne SVOCs [18][19][20]. We separately investigated the collection and elution recoveries for precise determination of SVOCs.…”
