Polymer Composites Reinforced with Hybrid Fiber Fabrics

Abstract: In an effort to show the influence of the hybridization method in hybrid fabric reinforced composites within the characteristic of the fracture and the mechanical properties, two laminate reinforced with bi-directional woven were developed, where one of them was reinforced with a hybrid strand (hybrid strand composite laminate) and the other with a different strands (hybrid fabric composite laminate). Both laminates used polyester resin, Kevlar-49 and glass-E fibers, had four layers and were prepared industria… Show more

“…Macroscopically, the specimens exhibit a whitened area in fracture region, Figure 11, located in the cross-section of specimens, near the central support. This area, characterized by fracture adhesive, can also be seen in static bending tests, as shown in the work developed by Felipe et al 6 and Chemami et al 31 , representing crack locations in the matrix.…”

“…Studies on composite materials reinforced with fibers are becoming more evident every day due to their high applicability in several engineering sectors 1,2 . These materials can exhibit excellent properties due to the possible combination of different materials and fiber orientations, producing structures optimized and specific for certain loads [3][4][5][6] . One of the most used material in this context are the sandwich composite materials.…”

“…In the last few years, high potential of the hybrid textiles made of synthetic fibers for composite applications gained the attention of industry and researchers. Numerous studies reported advantageous mechanical performance of these hybrid composites, e.g., aramid-/glass fabric polyester [19], glass-/aramid and glass-/polyethylene fabric epoxy [20]. An extensive review of the hybrid composites with glass, carbon and aramid fibers hybridized at different levels from ply to yarn level is described in literature [21].…”

“…Composite materials comprise from polymers reinforced with fibers, structural concretes, others that use ceramic and metal materials [1,2]. The polymer composites may exhibit excellent properties due to use great possibility of fibers combinations and orientations, forming optimized and specific structures for different types of loading [3].…”
