Polymeric Composites Based on Polyurea Matrix Reinforced with Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: This paper deals with the synthesis of polyurea and its use as polymer matrix for nanocomposites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). Two types of materials were obtained during this research, the first cathegory uses the polyurea as matrix and the second one uses a mixture between epoxy resin and polyurea. The nanocomposites were characterized by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Tensile Tests .The elastomeric features… Show more

“…Duda et al 89 investigated the effect of polyurea/glass fibers composite system on the mechanical properties of the AISI 304 steel, such as adhesion, impact resistance, behavior, and fatigue life. They found that the system was better positioned to use these fibers than those with the same epoxy matrix, as reported for the CNTs by Vulcan et al 72 …”

“…Reinforcement by the multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) is also a common approach to increase the Tg and improve the mechanical properties and thermal stability in the polyurea‐based nanocomposite systems introducing polyurea into these systems generally enhances the mechanical and thermal performance relative to the epoxy matrix 72 . However, the polyurea nanocomposite systems often show two glass transfer temperatures ( T g 1 , T g 2 ).…”

“…Since the best results in terms of ballistic resistance were obtained by one specific composition of polyurea-based composite, that same composition was employed in the appropriate tests performed during the present study. In brief, the MWCNT-OH was obtained from MWCNT (from Sigma Aldrich) using the method described in [12] and, further, the MWCNT-OH-polyurea derivative (PUC) was prepared using 0.75% MWCNT-OH reinforcing agent, 49.625% polyurea (PU) prepolymer and 49.625% polyamines from EUROPOL ® .…”

“…In the view of obtaining various concentrations of MWCNT-OH in the polyurea matrix, a 10% MWCNT-OH masterbatch has been first obtained. The MWCNT-OH has been obtained accordingly to [26] with over 95% purity and 1.65wt% OH from MWCNT supplied from Sigma-Aldrich.…”
