“…Our group has extensively experience in the preparation of drug delivery systems of hydrophobic drugs 3437 . In fact, we recently described the preparation of amphiphilic copolymers of N -vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) and a methacrylate derivative of α-TOS (MTOS) by free radical polymerization 38 .…”

“…This occurs by the copolymerization of a hydrophilic monomer and a hydrophobic monomer of very different reactivity ratios. Lopez--Donaire et al [51] synthesized copolymers based on oleyl 2--acetamido--2--deoxy--α--D--glucopyranoside (OAG) due to the potent anti--mitotic activity that OAG presents against glioma cells (U--373). For this purpose a methacrylic group was covalently linked through a carboxylic ester function at position C--6 on the pyranosidic ring, and the obtained methacrylic derivative was copolymerized with N--vinyl pyrrolidone.…”

“…It is probably more necessary to find the best, more active and less toxic way to apply bioactive compounds and specific drugs, than the discovery of new drugs. Amphiphilic poly(OAG--co--VP) Nanoprecipitation in water using dioxane as solvent OAG (antimitotic activity) [51] Amphiphilic poly(BA--co--MANSA)…”

“…The reactivity ratios (r HEI and r VI ) of the HEI/VI pair of monomers were determined by the in situ 1 H NMR spectroscopy method reported in the literature. [24][25][26] Briefly, H37, H60, and H92 copolymerization reactions initiated by AIBN were carried out at 60 8C inside a Varian Mercury 400 MHz NMR spectrometer using the heater controller equipment. A solution of N,N 0 -dimethylformamide (DMF) in DMSO-d 6 (10 mg Á mL À1 ) confined in a thin-wall capillary tube was introduced in the NMR spectroscopy tube and used as reference for quantification purpose.…”

“…Previous work has demonstrated that these parameters can be accurately determined by in situ NMR spectroscopy in good agreement with those obtained from copolymerization reactions analyzed at low conversion. [24][25][26] Figure 1 shows the 1 H NMR spectra of the copolymerization reaction performed inside the NMR spectroscopy tube with a molar ratio feed of 50:50 (HEI:VI mol%) at different reaction times, clearly showing that both monomers have very different reactivities, as HEI is noticeably converted much faster than VI. Instantaneous molar fractions of HEI and VI monomers were obtained from Equation 1 and 2 and the reactivity ratios were quantitatively determined by the monitoring of the conversion of each comonomer as the copolymerization progressed, using a well-known integrated form of the differential copolymer equation that defines the terminal model…”
