Polymerization Model for Hydrogen Peroxide Initiated Synthesis of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles

Abstract: A very simple, environmentally friendly, one-step oxidative polymerization route to fabricate polypyrrole (Ppy) nanoparticles of fixed size and morphology was developed and investigated. The herein proposed method is based on the application of sodium dodecyl sulfate and hydrogen peroxide, both easily degradable and cheap materials. The polymerization reaction is performed on 24 h time scale under standard conditions. We monitored a polaronic peak at 465 nm and estimated nanoparticle concentration during vario… Show more

“…The chemical polymerization of pyrrole can be accomplished using dispersive polymerization [20], interfacial polymerization [21,22], seeding techniques [23,24], emulsion polymerization [25,26], etc. Surfactant-assisted emulsion techniques offer facile routes for synthesizing PPy whereby interesting optical, electrical and morphological properties can be achieved in conjunction with easy removal of templates.…”

“…Some examples of oxidizers initiating polymerization of PTP are FeCl 3 , H 2 O 2 , CuClO 4 , etc. [18,19]. It is possible to entrap a variety of molecules into the PTP-based layer in order to change its parameters, such as electrical conductivity [20].…”
