Polyphenol oxidase/gold nanoparticles/mesoporous carbon-modified electrode as an electrochemical sensing platform for rutin in dark teas

Abstract: By virtue of great surface area of mesoporous carbon, enhanced conductivity of AuNPs, and good electrochemical response of polyphenol oxidase to rutin, a PPO/AuNPs/FDU-15-modified electrode was used for the determination of rutin in dark teas.

“…Over the last years, the development of electrochemical sensors based on nanomaterial-modied electrodes, has become one of the most active research areas. [49][50][51] A diversity of nanomaterials with wellcontrolled physicochemical features, surface charge, shape and dimension are produced by signicant advances in synthetic methodologies. 52,53 There are many types of nanomaterials employed for the modication of electrodes for electrochemical sensing of HZ including: carbon based nanomaterials carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene (GR), metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) and their composites, and so on.…”

“…FDU-15 was synthesized according to the evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) method [ 167 ] and showed a layered and mesoporous structure from the morphological analysis. Its conductivity, porosity, and surface-to-volume ratio were integrated with the conductivity and biocompatibility of AuNPs.…”

“…The CME, thus prepared, showed a good result for the determination of polyphenols in green tea extracts. Recently, in 2019, a biosensor was developed by Zhong et al., based on polyphenol oxidase enzyme for the detection of rutin [50]. The GCE was modified with mesoporous carbon (FDU‐15) over which AuNPs were deposited, followed by PPO, designated as GCE/FDU‐15/AuNPs/PPO.…”
