Pool Boiling of NOVEC-649 on Microparticle-Coated and Nanoparticle-Coated Surfaces

Abstract: In this study, microparticle coatings and nanoparticle coatings were fabricated on copper surfaces by an electrochemical deposition method and an electrophoretic deposition method, respectively. Pool boiling of NOVEC-649 was experimentally studied on the coated surfaces, concerning heat transfer, bubble dynamics, and critical heat fluxes. Compared with a smooth surface, heat transfer coefficients and critical heat flux (CHF) were improved, achieving a maximum heat transfer enhancement of 460% on the nanopartic… Show more

“…Ghaffari et al [69] measured the CHF of Novec™ 649 to be 195 kW m −2 on bare copper surface under pool boiling conditions. Cao et al [70] enhanced the pool boiling heat transfer performance of Novec™ 649 by coating the boiling surface with either micro-or nanoparticles. In another study [71], the same team also developed microporous surfaces capable of boiling performance enhancement in combination with Novec™ 649.…”

“…Woodoc et al [11] investigated the use of HFE7000 refrigerant in a silicone mini heat exchanger (MECH-X), which is a heat sink reactor with a thickness of 800 µm. The exchanger was used to cool electronic components that were heated to 90 • C. The boiling studies of Novec refrigerants (HFE7000, HFE7100, FC-72, and HFE-649) were conducted by Eraghubia et al [17], Piasecka et al [18][19][20], and Cao et al [21], who created a visualization of pool boiling of HFE-649. Mohamadi et al [22], on the other hand, investigated heat transfer with the use of a nanofluid that consisted of an HFE 7000 refrigerant and Al 2 O 3 as well as SiO 2 nanoparticles.…”
