“…Haefner (1978) reported that the Armstrong-Reproduction of Ovalipes catharus 535 lack of mature ovaries in female Geryon quinquedens in November corresponded to a peak of ovigerous females at that time which suggested that most females had extruded their eggs. Similarly, peak abundance of ovigerous female Cancer pagurus coincided with the greatest percentage of females with undeveloped ovaries (Brown & Bennett 1980). Gonad index analysis also showed a spread in reproductive activity in female 0. catharus over 4-5 months.…”

“…The peak for females probably occurs at the time of copulation and then 5-6 months elapse before spawning. This is not unusual among the Brachyura and a delay of 2 to 9 months, and 12 months occurs for Callinectes sapidus (Van Engel 1958) and Cancerpagurus (Brown & Bennett 1980), respectively.…”

“…Larger individuals (>l20 mm CW) that will moult once, or less than once, in a season (Hancock & Edwards 1967) will probably not do so until the food availability has been sufficiently high to allow adequate feeding. Excluding immature (prepubescent) crabs, Edwards (1979), Brown & Bennett (1980 and Karlsson & Christiansen (1996) all report that the peak in the moulting period occurs earlier in females than males. Higher numbers of large males onshore throughout most of the moulting season may indicate male polygamy, as shown in laboratory studies by Edwards (1966), and a tendency for males to hold back their moult until most of the females have moved to offshore waters to find sediment suitable for the spawning of their eggs.…”

“…For round goby the weight-length relationship was found to be weight=5 * 10 −6 standard length 3.2458 (R 2 =0.9856) calculated from data in Almqvist et al (unpubl. data), whereas, relationships for invertebrate prey organisms were found in the literature (Ankar and Elmgren 1976;Mauchline 1977;Brown and Bennett 1980;Rumohr et al 1987;ICES CM 2000).…”
