Postmortem Diagnosis of Hypertonic Dehydration by Chemical Analysis of Vitreous Humor

Abstract: The aim of forensic autopsy is to accurately reconstitute, as much as possible, the circumstances of death (the cause of death and the mechanism of death, the post-mortem interval, the related pathology and its role, the survival interval). Post-mortem biochemical analyses can help to various extents in establishing these issues. In order to elucidate the issue of post-mortem biochemical investigations, we conducted an analysis of forensic casuistry within a delimited territory, for a period of 3 years in orde… Show more

“…The concrete examples of pathologies determined by the intoxication with various substances determine the increase of the student's motivation to participate actively in the course and to understand the physico-chemical phenomena studied as well as the anatomical-physiological particularities presented during the course (Kaplan, 2019;Ciubara et al, 2018;Damian, David, Moldoveanu, Iov, Nedelea, Knieling & Sandu, 2017). “…To its high toxicity is added the danger of going unnoticed, as it is odourless, colourless and not irritating for mucous membranes, not announcing its lethal presence to unnoticed people exposed [1,2]. The biochemical mechanism of the poisoning effect is very different than with other substances [3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…The binding of carbon monoxide to cytochrome oxidase also interferes with aerobic metabolism and with efficient adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis [11]. CO, along with nitric oxide (NO), appear to modulate intracellular cGMP levels, platelet aggregation, and smooth muscle relaxation [12]. Overall, CO has a lower affinity for soluble guanylyl cyclase (a heme protein) than NO ( fig.…”
