Potential Forage of Manihot spp. Under the Effect of Cuts and Sources of Organic Fertilization

Abstract: Manihot spp. (family Euphorbiaceae), commonly known as pornunça, is a forage plant that has been used in animal feed. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different conditions of organic adduction and cuts on the growth, productivity, and partition of aerial phytomass of pornunça in the Brazilian semiarid region. This work is part of a study to discover species of the Brazilian caatinga biome with agricultural potential. An experiment was conducted in the region of Cubat&am… Show more

“…is a natural hybrid between cassava and wild cassava used as forage in the Brazilian semi-arid region (Silva et al, 2017), with potential for use in other drylands worldwide. Pornunça shows satisfactory forage yield, considering the Brazilian semi-arid environment (Alencar et al, 2019), and suitable quality of fresh forage or silage .…”

“…However, these plants contain cyanogenic glycosides that can be harmful to animals. Despite this, they have a high crude protein content of 15.28%, as reported by Alencar et al (2019) and Amorim et al (2022). Haying is a technique used to conserve forage and can be a viable alternative in arid and semi-arid regions.…”
