The solar-hydroelectric (SHE) energy system is a renewable hybrid energy system consisting of solar and hydroelectric energy. An optimization algorithm has been designed to work out the installed power size of the SHE hybrid system, which is planned to be integrated into the existing hydroelectric power systems. This designed algorithm provides the optimum installed power with the benefit/cost approach. The value of the hydro cost and also the energy generation is taken from the actual values since it's an existing facility, and also the electricity production and price of the solar power are obtained from the algorithm that works iteratively. This study aims to indicate that more electricity will be produced by regulating water flows due to the reservoir of hydroelectric power plants. Hydro energy enables energy management to be administrated more effectively with the reservoir, which could be a natural enclosure, without using the other energy storage equipment/method. As a result of the study, it's been shown that with the regulation of the hydro facility flows with a reservoir, 180% more solar power capacity installation with 20.9 MW installed power and 12% more electricity production with 75.3 GWh electricity production is provided compared to the unregulated situation.

The building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system have recently drawn interest and have demonstrated high potential to assist building owners supply both thermal and electrical loads. In this paper, the BIPV technology has been reviewed, in terms of its performance, efficiency and power generation capacity. Specifically, the applications of the BIPV in tropical climate regions have been discussed, together with its prospects and challenges. For these schemes to be implemented in a tropical climatic region, the following issues must be considered: 1) Certain studies must be done relating to electrical load demand, predicted PV output, location of the buildings and its integration and constraints associated with roof design; 2) For the highest energy production from solar PV, the solar collectors need to be with the right tilt depending on the location; 3) Design criteria such as safety, efficiency, durability, flexibility and constructive issues need to be considered; 4) The government of such countries must train electricians and carpenters on PV installations; 5) The BIPV roofing must perform same function as normal roofing materials, such as noise protection, water tightness, insulation and climate protection, and 6) As practiced around the world, these countries must establish design standards for the BIPV.

A Study on a Floating Solar Energy System Applied in an Intertidal Zone

This study was aimed at investigating a floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) system by numerical and experimental simulations under wave and wind loads to analyze the motion characteristics of the platform, the tension of the mooring line, and the pressure and uplift coefficient of panels at 2.5 m/5 m water depth conditions. The floating platform was installed with four rows of solar panels, each row with five panels, attached with four catenary types of mooring lines at the corner of the platform. The numerical model was based on ANSYS AQWA and ANSYS FLUENT (ANSYS Inc., Canonsburg, PA, USA). The experiment model was a scaled FPV platform with four rows of panels scaled in the 1:4 scale ratio. The results obtained from the experiment and numerical simulation achieved a good agreement. The results show that under normal sea conditions, the FPV system may resonate in a high frequency of wave condition, and a larger lift force occurred at the windward surface. Under extreme sea conditions, the pitch motion of the floating platform changed about ±6° without overturning; however, the wind will cause a large drift of the floating platform and the vortex area formed, which will cause damage to the solar panel.
