The thermal decomposition of phenyl methyl sulphide was investigated in a flow system in an excess of toluene. The main products were methane, thiophenol, and dibenzyl. The primary mode of decolnposition was ascribed to the reaction CGHbSCH, -+ CsI-15S + CHs.The rate constant for this process was given by the expression k = 3 X 10l,l, e -6 0 ,~0 0 /~ sec-l.
