Power transformer for a single-stage bidirectional and isolated ac-dc matrix converter for energy storage systems

Abstract: This paper presents an approach to design the transformer and the link inductor for the high-frequency link matrix converter. The proposed method aims to systematize the design process of the HF-link using analytic and software tools. The models for the characterization of the core and winding losses have been reviewed. Considerations about the practical implementation and construction of the magnetic devices are also provided. The software receives the inputs from the mathematical analysis and runs the optimi… Show more

“…Three-phase full-bridge PFC is also a suitable option for bidirectional battery charging applications, in particular the three-level T-type converter, due to higher efficiency, although it has higher component number and higher complexity in control. Moreover, at high power levels, singlestage OBC converters would be preferred for bidirectional applications since they can achieve high power density and compactness, although they raise some challenges in terms of hardware design and achieving high efficiency [138]. Higher efficiency and better reliability could be achieved by an advanced control method and high-performance components.…”

“…Command signals for the power semiconductors are generated by the modulation proposed in [17] and patented in [18]. The MC applies voltage v p to the high-frequency transformer (HFT) [34]. The full-bridge produces i o by impressing v s in the HFT secondary.…”
