Preconcentration and speciation of chromium species using ICP-OES after ultrasound-assisted magnetic solid phase extraction with an amino-modified magnetic nanocomposite prepared from Fe3O4, MnO2 and Al2O3

Abstract: The article describes a method for preconcentration and speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in river waters. It is based on ultrasound-assisted magnetic solid phase extraction employing a nanocomposite prepared from magnetite nanoparticles, manganese oxide and alumina oxide, and then funct i o n a l i z e d w i t h [ 3 -( 2 -am i n oe t h y l a m i n o ) p r o p y l ] trimethoxysilane (AAPTMS). By taking advantage of the oxidative properties of MnO 2 , the Fe 3 O 4 @MnO 2 ,Al 2 O 3 nanocomposite was used for the … Show more

“…Therefore, the development of new and sensitive analytical methods for chromium speciation in water samples is well-founded. Techniques which are used most commonly for the determination of Cr(VI) species are flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) [ 2 , 3 ], electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) [ 4 , 5 ], inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) [ 6 , 7 ], inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [ 8 , 9 ], and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) [ 10 , 11 ]. Although, some of these techniques, e.g.…”

“…Liu et al (2011) showed that the internal pore structure of each material plays an important role in the adsorption performance of different adsorbate [19]. For this reason, the average pore diameter of Fe 2 O 3 -SiO 2 and Fe 2 O 3 -SiO 2 -PAN were investigated and results were shown in [47], reported that nanocomposite material has a variety of metal oxides with different shapes and sizes, which ensures more active sites due to more atoms on the surface and edges of the composite.…”

“…Furthermore, separation by high‐performance ion chromatography (HPIC) has been reported , and solid‐phase extraction has been effectuated by using magnetic multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) . Finally, ultrasound‐assisted magnetic solid‐phase extraction coupled with ICP‐OES as detection method has been also utilized as well . The main drawbacks of these analytical techniques are their high cost, the need of qualified personnel, and the complexity of materials.…”
