BIA has recently been applied in ecology as an easy, accurate, nonlethal, and low-cost method to estimate animal condition and composition (Berg and Marchello 1994;Marchello et al 1999), with case studies on fish (Bosworth and Wolters 2001;Cox and Hartman 2005;Cox and Heintz 2009;Duncan et al 2007), including tunas (Willis and Hobday 2008).
