Predicting population age structures of China, India, and Vietnam by 2030 based on compositional data

Abstract: The changing population age structure has a significant influence on the economy, society, and numerous other aspects of a country. This paper has innovatively applied the method of compositional data forecasting for the prediction of population age changes of the young (aged 0–14), the middle-aged (aged 15–64), and the elderly (aged older than 65) in China, India, and Vietnam by 2030 based on data from 1960 to 2016. To select the best-suited forecasting model, an array of data transformation approaches and fo… Show more

“…Vietnam has one of the fastest rates of aging in the world, and the diabetic prevalence in Vietnam has progressively increased with advancing age. 11 , 12 Despite the high prevalence of DM among Vietnamese adults, patients often lack their knowledge and skills to manage the disease. A study in the Red River Delta showed a low level of knowledge about diabetes among the general population aged 40–64 years old.…”

“…The Ljung−Box Q-test was calculated to test the hypothesis concerning whether the residual sequence was an independent sequence [ 25 ]. Time-series models could be used if the residual sequence was a white noise sequence [ 26 ]. The statistic stationary R 2 , represented the stable coefficient of determination, was used to compare the difference between the fixed components and the simple mean model.…”

“…With the improvement of medical level and the adjustment of fertility policies, China has become the country with the largest elderly population in the world. 1 A prediction study on China’s population showed that China’s elderly population is growing, 2 , 3 and the growth rate of the population is faster than that of other countries. 2 In 2019, there are 175.99 million elderly people over 65 years old in China, and the population aging rate is as high as 12.57%.…”
