Predictive Maintenance on the Machining Process and Machine Tool

Abstract: This paper presents the process required to implement a data driven Predictive Maintenance (PdM) not only in the machine decision making, but also in data acquisition and processing. A short review of the different approaches and techniques in maintenance is given. The main contribution of this paper is a solution for the predictive maintenance problem in a real machining process. Several steps are needed to reach the solution, which are carefully explained. The obtained results show that the Preventive Mainte… Show more

“…Based on the literature, it is observed that RF algorithm is the most extensively applied ML technique for PdM, as it has been applied on various industrial equipment, components, or systems, including rotating machineries, turbofan engines, rotor bar-LS-PMSM, aircrafts, production lines, semiconductors, industrial pumps, cutting machines, refrigeration systems of supermarket, hard drive disk (HDD), wind turbine, vending machines, and many others. However, authors usually focused on CNC Machines [46,78,79], wind turbine [10,89,99,124], aircraft [67,94,97,122,123], and semiconductor [13,[81][82][83].…”

“…Predictive maintenances in Cavalieri-Salafia’s model [ 153 ] includes data acquisition from sensors, data manipulation (filtering, transforming, removing noise), aggregation, prediction, decision-making, scheduling, and further monitoring of status and configuration. Similarly, it describes the process of data acquisition, data processing, and machine decision-making [ 154 ]. Possible application of artificial intelligence (AI) for preventive maintenance is discussed by Carlson and Sakao [ 155 ].…”

“…The work on predictive maintenance by Jimenez-Cortadi et al [6] argues that data processing for predictive maintenance is an essential step. In addition, Welz [7] defines PdM stages as 1st anomaly detection, 2nd diagnosis, 3rd prognosis, and last mitigation.…”
