“…Prior studies suggest that SIP skills are related strongly to developmental outcomes in childhood and adolescence. Biased information-processing is associated with internet addiction (Hsieh et al, 2019;Jiang et al, 2016), elevated risk for experimentation with harmful or illicit substances (Chen, 2016;Crawley et al, 2015;McLaughlin et al, 2020;Nickoletti & Taussig, 2006), alcohol misuse (Ogle & Miller, 2004;Sayette et al, 1993), fighting and other violent behavior (Liu, 2015;Terzian et al, 2015;Verhoef et al, 2022), bullying (Espelage et al, 2015;Liu et al, 2021;Luo, 2010), gambling (Smith et al, 2012), theft (Fontaine, 2006), robbery (Nas et al, 2005), depressed mood and symptoms (Geukens et al, 2022;Li et al, 2016;Liu et al, 2016;Pössel et al, 2006;Ross et al, 2023;Venta et al, 2014), and suicidal ideation (Fan, 2005;Yao, 2015). Maladaptive behavior such as disruptive comportment in the classroom, delinquent or criminal involvement in the community, and noncompliance in the home are associated with biased information-processing (Arsenio et al, 2009;Fang, 2006;Lemerise & Maulden, 2010;Orue et al, 2021;Zhong et al, 2015).…”
