Pregnancy-associated breast cancer: the risky status quo and new concepts of predictive medicine

Abstract: The paper is motivated by severe concerns regarding currently applied care of the pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) characterised by particularly poor outcomes of the disease. Psychological and ethical aspects play a crucial role in PABC: the highest priority not to damage the foetus significantly complicates any treatment generally, and it is quite usual that patients disclaim undergoing any breast cancer treatment during pregnancy. Although, due to global demographic trends, PABC is far from appearin… Show more

“…Consequently, well-designed clinical trials are needed to establish optimal conditions and individualized treatment algorithms for the cost-effective and readily applicable chemoprevention by dietary phytochemicals. In order to reach the goal, multi-professional expertise is essential to explore, create, and implement a comprehensive approach based on the multiomic diagnostics [ 214 , 215 ], individualized patient profiling [ 216 , 217 ], patient stratification by phenotyping and genotyping [ 218 , 219 ], disease modelling, and machine learning [ 220 ] as well as innovative screening programs linked to the targeted preventive measures [ 221 , 222 ]. Current article conforms to the principles of predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine as the medicine of the future [ 223 ].…”

“…As detailed above, chemopreventive strategies play an important role in the context of 3P medicine [229]. However, further research for determining active compounds and dosing selection is urgently warranted to effectively promote their clinical implementation in terms of primary and secondary chemoprevention as well as cancer management as a whole [230][231][232].…”
