Preliminary Study on Mechanical Aspects of 3D-Printed PLA-TPU Composites

Abstract: Additive technologies using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology are currently a promising tool for the production of polymeric multicomposites. This paper presents the results of a static 3-point bending test carried out on 3D printed samples of the PLA-TPU composite. The article also discusses initial vibrodiagnostic research and Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis of the 3D-printed composite bushings. The data obtained from FEM analysis served as input data for motion simulation analysis, where the i… Show more

“…Table 1 shows the main properties of the materials selected in this work. The choice of this pair of materials is due to the wide range of properties that can be reached by varying the material fraction and the compatibility between them, while maintaining rather similar process conditions that are easy to achieve with standard equipment, as confirmed by the literature [11,[33][34][35]. The material distribution and CAM parameters (e.g., infill density and number of perimeters) are closely related to the local stiffness of the part, and they can be defined by functional requirements in the design process.…”

“…Recent studies show the effect of the process parameters on the adhesion mechanisms between PLA and TPU, which influences the mechanical properties and is the basis of the material coextrusion [33,35,[45][46][47][48]. In addition to the temperature, the main adhesion mechanisms are related to Van der Waals forces, chemical bonds, wettability, diffusion, and impurities at the boundary [48][49][50][51].…”

“…The static structural and explicit dynamic modules of ANSYS 2022 R1 were initially used to perform FEA simulations on the aforementioned specimens under both static and dynamic loading conditions. Boundary conditions were specified in accordance with the tensile, compression, and flexural analysis for the FEA models, which were created using a 0.5 mm mesh. , The equivalent Von Mises stress and total deformation under tensile circumstances were ascertained by performing static loading conditions on the respective ASTM specimens. Despite the fact that FEA has been used to assess the consistency between the mechanical behavior of experimental and simulation results, the latter is anticipated to evaluate the outcome under ideal circumstances.…”
