Preparation and Adsorption Properties of Novel Porous Microspheres with Different Concentrations of Bilirubin

Abstract: Background: Plasma perfusion was widely used to clear toxic substances of plasma. Particle size and uniformity of adsorbent microspheres also affect the absorption rate. Methods: Conventional suspension polymerization was improved using a pre-dispersion homogenizer to obtain novel adsorbent microspheres, named ERM-0100. Microsphere-related characteristics and attributes were analysed. Result: The ERM-0100 microspheres efficiently adsorbed different bilirubin concentrations, with a maximum rate of 59.72 ± 1.08%… Show more

“…There were evident peak levels of cytokines after the initiation of EBP on day 13. HA330 improved oxygenation and lung mechanics by removing circulating and alveolar cytokine levels (Honore et al, 2019b); BS330 adsorbed bilirubin to attenuate liver injury (Su et al, 2016). The EBP that combined the double plasma molecular adsorption system and plasma exchange can directly reduce the cytokines.…”

“…Dual plasma molecular adsorption system (DPMAS) is a treatment mode of non-bioarti cial liver which is developed recently [14], it primarily consists of a resin adsorber (HA330-II) [15] and a bilirubin adsorber (BS330) [16]. DPMAS system can not only adsorb bilirubin and bile acid, but also adsorb some in ammatory factors and others harmful small molecule substances (such as cytokines, endotoxin) [17,18].…”

“…On the basis of previous work, an animal model for bilirubin adsorption in vivo was successfully established, and its biocompatibility and adsorption efficiency was further verified. 12 In the current work, we evaluated the biocompatibility of ERM-0100 and the results, including cytotoxicity and hemolysis test and sensitization test, are friendly and safe. Then, we developed a high bilirubin animal model by ligating the bile duct and injecting Dgalactosamine hydrochloride.…”

“…ERM‐0100 adsorb bilirubin through that spread in the hole of the microspheres and van der Waals force among the molecules, and specificity adsorbs bilirubin through the electrostatic force after modifying in amine base. On the basis of previous work, an animal model for bilirubin adsorption in vivo was successfully established, and its biocompatibility and adsorption efficiency was further verified 12 …”
