Preparation and Cancer Cell Invasion Inhibitory Effects of C16-Alkynic Fatty Acids.

Abstract: Five C(16)-alkynic fatty acids (2-6) were prepared and examined their inhibitory effects on cancer cell invasion. It has been found that hexadeca-6,8,10-triynoic acid (5) and hexadeca-8,10,12-triynoic acid (6) exhibit similar potent inhibitory activities with that of octadeca-8,10,12-triynoic acid (1) which was isolated from Scurrula atropurpurea (Loranthaceae).

“…[146], and stem of Elytranthe parasitica (L.) Danser [147] also exerted cytotoxic effects. In addition, the alkynic fatty acids from S. atropurpurea potently inhibited in vitro tumor cell invasion [148], and extracts from the stem or leaves of S. oortiana increased tumor cell sensitivity to TNF-α-mediated lysis [145]. The cat's claw U. guianensis (Figure 8) is indigenous to the Amazonian parts of Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Guyanas.…”

“…All compounds showed inhibitory activity against cancer cell invasion (MM1) in vitro (Table 8) [74]. Five C 16 -acetylenic fatty acids, hexadec-8-ynoic acid (87), hexadec-10-ynoic acid (88), hexadeca-8,10diynoic (89), hexadeca-6,8,10-trienoic (90), and hexadeca-8,10,12-triynoic (91) acids were prepared and their inhibitory activity against cancer cell invasion examined [75]. The results indicated that the natural C 18 -triyne fatty acid 86 92, and asparenydiol (93).…”
