Preparation and characterization of hydroxyapatite based nano-composite biomorphic implants

Abstract: The aim of this study was the preparation and characterization of different biomorphic implants based on calcined cattle bones coated with hydroxyapatite (Hap) based nanocomposites in different ratios. For comparison, molded nanocomposites were also produced as biomorphic implants. The obtained nanocomposite/implants were characterized using Xray diffraction, light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and apparent porosity. The release of Ca and P in simulated body f… Show more

“…The surface structure of coated implants suffers changes of greater corrosion resistance and also in apatite formation due to the occurrence of passive oxide layer [26]. Future studies should be done to investigate the osteoblasts and osteocytes adhesion on coating materials such as HA or TiO 2 , as well as the possibility to create osteoclastic inhibition [27,28].…”

“…In this context, the development of the composite materials with specific characteristics for the most diverse applications is in the continuous attention of the scientific community and industrial developers [3]. Thus, developments of ceramic composites [4] for various medical applications [5,6], electrodes for electrochemical synthesis [7], thin layers for photocatalysis [8], polymer-based composites with various fillers [9 -16] are reported with uses including the electrical engineering field [17][18][19][20], etc.…”

“…In case of prolonged treatment with antibiotics, the intestinal flora is disbalanced and favours the development of pathogenic bacteria. Besides these negative effects, one must not forget the adverse effects of certain antibiotics on the liver, kidneys or ear [1,2]. Antibiotics intake can be limited by a proper medical education of the population, through physicians' and pharmacists' active involvement.…”
