Preparation and characterization of stearic acid-pullulan nanoparticles

Abstract: For a new anticancer drug carrier, we synthesized 4 compositions of amphiphilic stearic acidconjugated pullulan (SAP) and characterized them with FT-IR spectroscopy. Crystalline changes were verified by x-ray diffraction patterns before and after synthesis of the SAP conjugate. SAP nanoparticles were prepared by a diafiltration method, and the fluorescence spectroscopy using pyrene showed particle self-assembly in water. SAP nanoparticles were spherical in TEM photos, and particle size ranged between 200 appro… Show more

“…Pullulan, which is a water-soluble, neutral, linear polysaccharide, has properties of biocompatibility and biodegradability. These attributes have been exploited in the extensive biomedical use of pullulan as a nanomaterial [17,[20][21][22]. Since pullulan is highly water-soluble, copolymerization with PLGA endowed amphiphilic properties to copolymers, i.e., pullulan backbone acts as a hydrophilic domain and PLGA acts as a hydrophobic domain [17].…”

“…Therefore, the degree of crystallinity of biotin was high. 47,48 There were many crystal diffraction peaks in the biotin spectrum, then POP had only one diffraction peak, which was a broad and diffuse diffraction peak at 2q of 19.81 . Relative to POP, the spectrum diffraction peak of Bio-POP conjugates was slightly shied at 2q of 18.95 .…”
