Preparation and properties of fluorine‐containing polyarylates from tetrafluoroisophthaloyl chloride and bisphenols

Abstract: Fluorine‐containing polyarylates having inherent viscosities of 0.2–0.8 dL/g were prepared from tetrafluoroisophthaloyl chloride and various bisphenols by low temperature solution polycondensation in chloroform with triethylamine or by two‐phase polycondensation in a dichloromethane‐water or nitrobenzene‐water system with benzyltriethylammonium chloride as the phase transfer catalyst. These polyarylates were amorphous and were readily soluble in various solvents, including chloroform and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone… Show more

“…In order to get more insight into the effect of fluoroalkylene unit on the properties of polyamides, we have synthesized two new families of semifluoroalkylene-containing aromatic-aliphatic polyamides from aromatic diamines and the two key monomers, 4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7-octafluorodecanedioic acid (3a) and 4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9-dodecafluorododecanedioic acid (3b) 12) . In addition, the influence of the fluorine content on the themal behavior and surface wettability is discussed in this study.…”

“…Although some work has been reported on the 5-(Perfluorononenyloxy)isophthalic Acid (I) fluorine-containing polyarylates, [21][22][23][24][25] nenyloxy group on the properties of polyarylates, such as inherent viscosity, solubility, thermal properties, mechanical properties, dielectric con-5-(Perfluorononenyloxy)isophthaloyl chloride (II) stant, and moisture absorption. In addition, the effects of reaction conditions such as monomer 5-(Perfluorononenyloxy)isophthalic acid (I) 12.24 g (0.02 mol), 4 mL of DMF and 50 mL of toluene concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the inherent viscosity of the resulted polywere introduced into the four-neck flask, and the mixture was preheated to 70ЊC.…”

“…PBZT has been shown to be a third‐order NLO polymer and has been reported to have X (3) = 4.5 −10 CSU 4. Halogen‐containing aromatic condensation polymers such as polyamides,5–8 polyacrylates,9–11 poly(benzoxazole)s,12 polyimides,13 polyethers,14, 15 polycarbonates,16 polyformals,17 polyketones,18 and polyazomethines19 have been synthesized from halogen‐containing dicarboxylic acids, diamines, bisphenols, aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and dinitrile. Most of these polymers show higher solubility, thermal and thermooxidative stability, and water repellency than the corresponding polymers with no halogen atoms.…”
