Preparation of a Fungal-Modified Material Linked by the Monoamidoxime Terminal Open-Chain Polyether and Its Uranyl Adsorption

Abstract: In this study, some synthetic methods of condensation, substitution, and amidoxime reaction were used to prepare a kind of new fungal-modified material containing the monoamidoxime terminal open-chain polyether, and its microstructure and morphology were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The single-factor method was used to preliminarily investigate uranium(VI) adsorption capacity of the targ… Show more

“…By the above characterization data of FITR, SEM, TGA, and BET, a new modi ed fungal material characterized with polydioxyethylene ether as the bridge chain and diamidoxime as the terminal groups was proved synthesized successfully. Through the single factor and orthogonal experiments, the best adsorption conditions (initial uranium (VI) concentration 40 mg L -1 , solid-liquid ratio 25 mg L -1 , initial pH 6.5, and contact time 130 min) were found out, and the maximum adsorption capacity of the target material was obtained 446.20 mg g -1 , which was 29 times that of the native fungus (15.46 mg g -1 ) (Yang et al 2011), and almost twice as much as that of the similar monoamidoxime material (295.48 mg g −1 ) (Liu et al 2021). In the anti-interference experiment, it is speculated that the acquisition had the strong anti-interference performance to the other ions such as Li + , Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , and Mg 2+ , which could well interpreted the new material was of the better uranyl selective adsorption.…”

“…Biosorbents and biopolymers have been frequently used as efficient sorbents for metal recovery [22][23][24][25]; making profit of the presence of reactive groups such as amine (in chitosan, for example, [26]) or carboxylic groups (in alginate, for example, [27,28]). These materials have also been used as encapsulating agents (by hydrogel formation [29][30][31]) and/or as support for functionalization [32][33][34]. Indeed, the presences of hydroxyl and amine groups bring high reactivity to these materials for chemical grafting.…”

“…Several isotherm equations are available to describe such curve shapes, one of which is the Temkin isotherm which has in recent years been used in an increasing number of articles reporting on water contaminant adsorption. Table presents a list of such papers published recently in Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research . One observation that jumps out from Table is that the data fitting ability of the Temkin isotherm is often compared with those of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Although not as popular as the latter two isotherms, the Temkin isotherm is being used with sufficient frequency to merit wider awareness of its strengths and limitations.…”
