Preparation of a sepiolite/Cu-BDC nanocomposite and its application as an adsorbent in respirator cartridges for H2S removal

Abstract: A newly developed Cu-BDC MOF nanocomposite based on natural sepiolite (Sep) was prepared and characterized using XRD, SEM, EDS, BET, and FTIR techniques for removal of hydrogen sulfide from the air.

“…The vibration bands at 468 and 556 cm À1 can be considered as the stretching vibration peaks of Cu-O. 39 Also, there are no solvent (DMF) absorption peaks, which is in agreement with the XRD patterns of these samples. All of the mentioned peaks of Cu-BDC are observed in the infrared spectrum of the Cu-BDC@OAC composite without shi.…”

“…[ 21 ] The peak around 565 cm –1 can be attributed to the stretching vibration of CuO (triangle dots). [ 22 ] The peaks above can also be found at similar positions in the spectra of X‐Cu‐BDC, indicating the analogous composition of all the MOFs. The slight peak position shift may be caused by the inductive effect of the corresponding group appended on the benzene.…”

“…To explore the influence of the dimension of MOF templates on the hydrogen generation performance of catalysts, two different dimensional MOF templates were selected. The solvothermal reaction of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 •3H 2 O and H 2 BDC in DMF gave a two-dimensional MOF template (noted as Cu-BDC), 53 and the hydrothermal reaction of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 •3H 2 O and H 3 BTC in water and ethanol gave a three-dimensional MOF template (noted as Cu-BTC). 54 To obtain N-doped carbon-based supports, a series of BZImodified Cu-BTC (noted as Cu-BTC-BZI), where the N-containing BZI ligands are coordinated to the unsaturated Cu 2+ centers, were synthesized.…”
