“…4 Hence, in order to overcome the above issue, a secondary phase particle has to be incorporated with alumina. 5 Ito et al 6 introduced zirconia into Al 2 O 3 particles on the plasma sprayed coatings and observed a significant improvement in the wear resistance and fracture toughness compared to those of the plasma sprayed alumina coating. Among various ceramics, zirconia possesses excellent mechanical properties such as hardness, 7 fracture toughness, 8 high temperature oxidation and wear resistance.…”

“…We have reported that the use of laser irradiation in a CVD process, i.e., laser chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) enhances chemical reactions, resulting in unique nanocrystal-matrix composite films such as SiC-SiO 2 [16], Rh-ZrO 2 [17], and ZrO 2 -Al 2 O 3 [18] films. For example, t-ZrO 2 was stabilized in an Al 2 O 3 matrix and the resulting films exhibited excellent mechanical and thermal properties [18]. In the present work, we prepared ZrO 2 -SiO 2 nanocomposite films by LCVD and investigated the effect of the deposition temperature on the microstructural evolution of the films.…”
