Preparation of environmentally friendly acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives by bulk photopolymerization and their performance

Abstract: Polyacrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives based on butyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, and acrylic acid were prepared by a bulk polymerization process triggered by a radical photoinitiator under UV irradiation and UV-crosslinking.

“…Figure 6 illustrates the gel fraction ( f g ) of PSA/DAM‐PEEL dual cross‐linking networks. The gel can formed by intermolecular and/or intramolecular chain transfer to a polymer after the reactions, resulting in a three‐dimensional continuous network structure 52 . The value of f g increased with the introduction of DAM/PEEL content except for the case of PSA/DAM.…”

“…The gel can formed by intermolecular and/or intramolecular chain transfer to a polymer after the reactions, resulting in a threedimensional continuous network structure. 52 The value of f g increased with the introduction of DAM/PEEL content except for the case of PSA/DAM. The values of f g were 65.6% in the PSA and 76.6, 82.8, 85.0, and 92.3% in the PSA/DAM, PSA/DAM-P1, PSA/DAM-P2, and PSA/DAM-P3, respectively.…”

“…The lower level of adhesion to non-polar polyolefin's is due to the relatively high polarity of polyacrylates. [5][6][7][8][9] The many advantages of solvent-based acrylic PSA have made these adhesives widely used in the production of self-adhesive products. They account for over 45% of the total number of PSAs produced.…”
