Preparation of imidazole embedded polyurea microcapsule for latent curing agent

Abstract: The IZ‐PU microcapsule‐type curing agent was prepared by interfacial polymerization method. The shell‐core structure of the IZ‐PU microcapsules was demonstrated by IR and SEM. The core content and coating efficiency of the IZ‐PU microcapsules were analyzed by DSC test of the one‐component adhesive consisting of IZ‐PU microcapsules and epoxy resin. The results showed that the IZ‐PU microcapsules is a proper latent curing agent to epoxy resin, its latency at room temperature is longer than 30 days.

“…Figure 1 A shows an SEM image of the avermectin B2 microcapsules, which can be seen to exhibit a regular spherical shape with a smooth and dense surface and a uniform particle size. In agreement with the results reported by Zhao et al, 31 the MDI-encapsulated microcapsules possessed an ideal spherical shape. In addition, Figure 1 B shows the particle size distribution of the avermectin B2 microcapsules.…”

“…Various attempts have been carried out to attain improved storage stability for imidazole derivatives. For example, encapsulation of imidazole derivatives in different polymeric or inorganic materials, as well as incorporation into inorganic networks, was described. Also, imidazole complexes exhibiting controlled initial nucleophilicity have been reported. , Furthermore, imidazole-releasing compounds like carbonyldiimidazole or thermally sensitive Michael adducts of imidazole have been investigated. , Unfortunately, most of the accelerators known from the literature either do not show sufficient storage stability or their reactivity is highly compromised.…”

“…37 The preparation of microcapsules by a physicochemical method is to separate or deposit the outer wall materials originally dissolved in the system and wrap the core materials to form microcapsules by changing the environmental conditions. Typical physicochemical methods include phase separation, 38,39 solvent volatilization, 40 and template method. 41,42 However, the physical method is to use physical and mechanical principles to prepare microcapsules, and the commonly used method is spray drying.…”
