Preparation of single walled carbon nanotube-pyrene 3D hybrid nanomaterial and its sensor response to ammonia

Abstract: In this work, the structural features and sensor response toward ammonia of a three dimensional (3D) SWCNTs material covalently functionalised with 1,6-diethynylpyrene were studied. The target SWCNTs hybrid material was prepared by the reaction of azido substituted SWCNTs with the 1,6-diethynylpyrene containing double terminal alkyne groups via the azide-alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition (Click) reaction. The structure of the 1,6-diethynylpyrene compound was determined by different spectroscopic methods such as FT-… Show more

“…TGA was utilized to calculate the amount of azide groups and SubPc molecules covalently bound to the surface of SWCNTs as described in the literature ( Figure d ) . The weight losses of CS hybrid, SWCNT‐N 3 , pristine SWCNT and SubPc at 700 °C were 30.54 %, 12.66 %, 4.69 % and 40.94 %, respectively.…”

“…are widely represented in sensors as the main material and/or a transducer modifier [ 199 , 200 , 201 ]. Currently, many reviews [ 39 , 202 , 203 ] and original papers [ 204 , 205 , 206 ] on various aspects of carbon nanomaterials application in sensors and biosensors have been published. These materials have a developed surface and high conductivity and mechanical strength.…”

“…The number of azide groups on SWCNTs-N3 was calculated according to the literature [47,60,61] The amount of SiPc molecules in this hybrid is about four times larger than that in SWCNT-based hybrid obtained by covalent functionalization with other phthalocyanine molecules [36,37] and comparable with the amount of other linking molecules, viz. pyrene and coumarin, in similar cross-linked hybrid materials [45,61].…”

“…For instance, the covalent binding of CNT via 1,4-diethylbenzene and 4,4 -diethynyldiphenyl linkers was carried out by the Sonogashira reaction [44]. It was also shown [45][46][47] that 3D hybrid materials of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) with organic molecules could be obtained by the azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction. In practical terms 3D-materials are usually considered as gas absorbers with high surface area [41,44,48].…”
