Preparation of TiO2 nanoparticles via cathode glow discharge electrolysis and its photocatalytic performance in the degradation of methylene blue

Abstract: TiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by cathode glow discharge electrolysis in sodium fluoride solution, in which cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) acted as a stabilizer, and a Ti foil and a Pt needlepoint served as the anode and the cathode, respectively. The structure, component, and morphology of TiO 2 NPs were characterized. A possible preparation mechanism was proposed. In addition, the photocatalytic performance of TiO 2 NPs was assessed through the degradation of methylene blue (MB). The results… Show more

“…In AB section (0-340 V), the current increases linearly with increasing the voltage, which belongs to the conventional electrolytic process following Faraday's law. [35] The BC section (340-480 V) is an unstable region. In this section, a vapor sheath layer is generated around anode due to Joule heating, which isolates the Pt needle from the electrolyte solution and results in an intermittent current.…”
