Preservice teachers' conceptions of teaching within sport education and multi-activity units

Abstract: The purpose of the study described in this paper was to determine 15 American preservice teachers' (PTs) conceptions of the teaching-learning process while teaching Sport Education and Multi-activity units during an early field experience. “…The fact that they were able to direct a good deal of their general pedagogy toward countering HM appeared to be due to the structure of the SE model. In line with previous research (Curtner-Smith & Sofo, 2004), the PTs were relatively free to follow this course of action since they were not central to or the main driving force behind the instruction.…”

“…Research suggests that the theoretical and structural advantages of the model have, in the main, been translated into practical advantages (Curtner-Smith & Sofo, 2004). “…Sport Education research has focused almost exclusively on team sports in physical education, with examples including football (Curtner-Smith and Sofo, 2004), volleyball (Pritchard, Hawkins, Wiegand, and Metzler, 2008) and basketball (Sinelnikov and Hastie, 2008), and by consequence, there is a limited understanding of the application of the model in cyclic sports in which there is a focus on technique. Indeed, the only study to examine the model in this sport category is that of Hastie, Calderón, Rolim, and Guarino (2013), who showed improvement in both students' technique and outcome performance during a season of track and field athletics.…”

“…Most of the research is from the macro or management point of view is, in fact, the construction of fine curriculum teachers. It is an undoubtedly self-conscious and self-improvement process [9]. This paper will study the construction of teachers from the perspective of individual teachers' perspective and team building and all these are shown in Table 1.…”
