“…Here, we found no changes in peak V̇O 2 (mean values of ∼28 ± 7 mL ⋅kg·min −1 ) over the course of the study, and this is inconsistent with most previous work on FBC or other cancer survivors [5156]. However, our data on CPET in male patients are presented for the first time in the literature, which seems very important given the wealth of literature focusing exclusively on FBC and exercise, and the evidence of sex-differences in cardiovascular response to exercise [57]. The baseline peak V̇O 2 data reported here are ∼10% higher compared with the average normative reference values of healthy men in North America (∼23 mL⋅kg·min −1 ) in the age group between 60 and 69 years [58].…”

“…This opens up the possibility that further increases in V̇O 2 peak were rather limited, in part due to the age of the participants in our study (MBC patients here were 60 years old). Indeed, cardiovascular plasticity deteriorates with age, limiting O 2 transport, and thus peak V̇O 2 during exercise [57]. Thus, it is reasonable to hypothesize that maintenance, rather than improvement of peak V̇O 2 was observed, likely due the age of the participants included here.…”

“…In our studies, this indicator exceeded 76% of VO2max in the case of CET and over 82% of VO 2max in the case of DSN. This result provides irrefutable proof of the high physical capacity of the people participating in some prior studies [44][45][46], and demonstrates that the DSN test meets all of the criteria needed to demonstrate its suitability for use in the assessment of human exercise capacity, similarly to the standardized CET test.…”

“…Muscle fatigue is usually a short-term and reversible process manifested as a lack of energy [1]. The main causes of fatigue are related to overexertion, insufficient relaxation time, or physical trauma [2,3]. However, muscle fatigue can be persistent and more severe when associated with pathological conditions, or chronic exposure to certain drugs and toxic compounds [4][5][6].…”

“…We previously tested the powerful antioxidant properties of C 60 fullerenes in experiments on ischemia, fatigue, and skeletal muscle injury [24][25][26]. However, the development of fatigue involves processes at all levels of the motor pathway between the brain and muscles [3]. Central fatigue is the inability of the nervous system to maximize muscle control [7].…”
