“…Papilloma is a benign neoplasm of epitheloid cells that affects both higher and lower vertebrates, including fish (Hedrick, Groff, Okihiro, & McDowell, ; Peters & Watermann, ; Rahmati‐holasoo, Shokrpoor, Ebrahimzadeh Mousavi, & Ardeshiri, ; Schlumberger & Lucke, ). Among fish, papilloma has been reported in European eel, Anguilla anguilla (Peters and Peters, ); koi carp, Cyprinus carpio (Calle et al., ) and gold spot pleco, Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus (Rahmati‐holasoo et al., ) besides other related neoplasms such as myxoma, osteoblastoma (Gopalakrishnan et al., ), branchioblastoma (Sinduja, Vijayakumar, & Gopalakrishnan, ) and gastric adenoma, myofibroblastoms, lipoma and fibrosarcomas (Singaravel, Gopalakrishnan, Vijayakumar, & Raja, ) in the dermal, gill and stomach of S. longiceps . To our knowledge, this is the first report of scleral fibrosarcoma and conjunctival squamous papilloma in the Indian oil sardine ( S. longiceps ).…”
