“…In a previous investigation, we screened 209 clinically stable outpatients with schizophrenia who were receiving AAP and found that 12.4% showed AAP-induced OC symptoms. 10 It is widely accepted that genetic factors play an important role in an individual's susceptibility to various AAP adverse effects, 11,12 and this assumption is the theoretical basis of pharmacogenetic studies. Nonetheless, heritability data for antipsychotic drug responses are extremely limited because of difficulties recruiting twin pairs who have received the same AAP treatment.…”

“…Genotype and haplotype frequencies were investigated in the OC and non-OC groups for 10 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the 3Ј region of SLC1A1 including SNPs that showed significant association with OCD in previous studies. [22][23][24] As AAP-induced OC symptoms are most frequently observed in clozapine-treated patients, 1,8,10 we performed a subgroup analysis for clozapine-induced OC symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first pharmacogenetic study investigating AAP-induced OC symptoms.…”

“…estimated that up to 70% of schizophrenics treated with antiserotonergic SGAs such as CLZ, olanzapine or risperidone develop secondary OCS [1]. Independent studies report equally high numbers of SGA-induced OCS within samples of comorbid patients: 25 of 28 [62], 29 of 39 [63] and 23 of 26 [64]. …”

“…This study provides a new insight in this area. Subtype analyses of previous studies suggested that clozapine treatment can induce de-novo onset of OCS at a rate of 20-28% (Lin et al, 2006;Ertugrul et al, 2005;Lim et al, 2007). These findings also suggest that clozapine can induce full threshold OCD, although less frequently.…”
