“…Conversely, rats exposed prenatally and lactationally to a higher dose of PCBs than used in the current study (10 mg/kg dam s.c. injection) did not demonstrate altered anxiety behavior when tested in a different arena, the elevated zero maze (Colciago et al, 2009). In humans with higher than average circulating PCBs, depressivity but not anxiety was increased (Gaum et al, 2014). In Inuit children, PCB 153 exposure, another more heavily chlorinated PCB than those used in the current study, was correlated with increased unhappiness and anxiety (Plusquellec et al, 2010).…”

“…Analysis including individuals with their plasma PCBs collected via bio-monitoring and the psychological syndromes assessed with a consistent screening method. Results showed greater PCB burdened individuals had greater depression but not anxiety syndrome [ 56 ].…”

“…Mixed results have been reported: higher levels of heavily chlorinated PCBs that induce CYP2B in serum increased the incidence of depressive like symptoms in older adults [62], but not diagnoses of depression in young adults [63]. Different effects are even found among capacitor workers occupationally exposed to PCBs earlier in their life: in a German study, higher measures of DL and NDL congeners were associated with major increases in symptoms of depression but not anxiety [64], whereas in a US study, no associations were found [65]. Findings of increased depressive symptoms are also true in studies of exposure to other EDCs, especially pesticides [66].…”
