“…This is in accordance with previous mainly cross-sectional studies regarding anxiety and depression in patients with IRD showing that use of bDMARDs, previous depression, anxiety or poor quality of life seem to be associated with tendencies to self-isolate. (3)(4)(5)8,10,40) Our findings mirror those in the general population showing psychological distress to gradually normalize after lockdown periods (36) and anxiety to decline in periods with lower SARS-CoV-19 infection rates. (37) Similarly, an ongoing Danish nationwide survey in >300000 Danish citizens showed reduced avoidance of physical contact during spring and summer 2021 compared to levels during winter.…”

(3)(4)(5)10) In two previous nationwide surveys (performed in 2020), we have described anxiety, concerns and widespread changes in behavior in patients with IRD. (6,11,12) More than 10.000 patients monitored in the Danish DANBIO registry (13) participated in each survey.…”

The pandemic has adversely affected mental health, especially in individuals with chronic disease such as Parkinson's disease, relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients, and patients with rheumatoid arthritis ( 27 29 ). This study was focused on the inpatients.…”

“…The level of their psychological distress were found to be similar to those of the healthy group (teachers/academic staff). The prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic was researched [ 42 ]. While the anxiety level in RA patients was found to be higher than the pre-pandemic levels, the depression levels in several patients with RA did not change during the pandemic, and it was reported that the number of patients reporting suspected depression increased remarkably after the COVID-19 outbreak.…”
