“…The high BDD prevalence in the sample may be elevated as a clinical interview was not used to confirm diagnosis. Previous research utilising the BDDQ-DV to screen for BDD without a clinical interview or defect rating scale has identified similar prevalence estimates to this study, ranging from 12.1% to 32% of their samples screening positive for BDD (Calderón et al, 2009;Hsu et al, 2009;Spataro et al, 2020). With the addition of a clinical interview and/or a defect rating scale to confirm minimal deformity, BDD prevalence estimates reduce to 2.9% to 15.2% in cosmetic dermatology settings (Veale et al, 2016).…”

“…It is also worth to mention the existence of two articles from Brazil 34 [117][118][119] The scientific production derived from the first line of investigation -exclusively from Brazil -reinforced the association between BDD and OCD. 116,[120][121][122] …”

“…[6,7] Among cosmetic and dermatological patients, findings indicate that BDD is highly prevalent (up to 33%). [8][9][10] The prevalence in community samples, however, seems to be lower, from 0.7% [11] to 2.4%, [12] with females showing higher prevalence rates than males. [12] The prevalence of BDD among student populations ranges from 2.3% in Australia, [4] to 5.3% in Germany, [13] 4.8% in Turkey, [5] 4.9% in China [14] and 4.9% at an American university.…”
