and Fisher's Exact Test were used. Results: All inmates and convicts were man, the median of age was 30,0 (min 18-max 68) years and substance use was 34,5%. The number of prisoners were referred to the hospital 815, total referrals were 1491; (referrals ranged from one to six) and most common in January; and according to frequency, reasons of the referral were eyes problems, musculoskeletal disorders and psychological problems. Emergency medical service was used for in medical causes (78,3%), accident, trauma and injuries (16,4%), suicide (5,3%). Discussion: Findings from the study show that prisoners are more likely to have suffered physical and mental health problems that compared to the rest of society and have significantly high substance use rates.
