Prevalence of Lumbar Spondylolisthesis in Middle‐Aged People in Beijing Community

Abstract: Objective Lumbar spondylolisthesis (LS) is a common lumbar disease, and the prevalence of LS in different countries or regions was not consistent in the past. This study intends to make statistics on the prevalence of lumbar spondylolisthesis in middle‐aged people in Beijing community. “…The incidence of spondylolisthesis in the middle-aged population reaches 17%, of which retrolisthesis accounts for the majority. 19 A series of studies have shown that retrolisthesis may be present in up to 30% of chronic low back pain patients. 20 However, the systematic study of retrolisthesis is insufficient due to its special type and less incidence of lumbar spinal stenosis.…”

“…Degenerative spondylolisthesis commonly occurs at L4/5, rather than L3/4, while spondylolytic spondylolisthesis commonly occurs at L5/S1. 36 37 38 However, diagnosis has no significant correlation between postoperative SL changes as seen in Table 1 . Furthermore, although the increased SL group had more L4/5 patients than L3/4 patients (94.1% vs. 5.9%), the decreased group also had more L4/5 patients (71.4%) than L3/4 patients (28.6%).…”

“…Although some authors consider conservative or chiropractic management to be viable options [2][3], the majority of studies show that decompression plus fusion is the best course of treatment with better clinical and radiological outcomes, though the surgical techniques that can be used to treat high-grade lumbar spondylolisthesis are still being debated [3][4][10][11][12]. Some authors have demonstrated favorable results with the modified Bohlman and reverse Bohlman technique for the treatment of high-grade spondylolisthesis [4].…”

“…Depending on the direction of the translation, it is classified as anterolisthesis (anterior displacement) or retrolisthesis (posterior displacement) which occurs with or without pars interarticularis fracture [1][2][3][4]. According to the literature, the segment most affected by degenerative anterolisthesis is L4-L5, and it occurs more frequently in women than in men [3]. However, high-grade listhesis is more common at the L5-S1 level [3].…”
