Background: Managing type 1 diabetes can be challenging, especially for youth, so there is a need for effective interventions to help youth live with diabetes.Objective: To determine the efficacy of a coping skills training (CST) program for Chinese youth with type 1 diabetes and to explore whether the efficacy of the program was different for school-aged children than for adolescents with type 1 diabetes.Methods: A total of 100 youth with type 1 diabetes aged 8 to 20 years were randomly placed in either an intervention group (CST + standard care [SC]) or a control group (SC). Data were collected at baseline, 6-month, and 12-month follow-ups on primary outcomes of perceived stress, coping, and self-efficacy and secondary outcomes of diabetes self-management, quality of life, and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). A generalized estimating equation analysis for repeated measures was used to determine the program effects and differential effects by age group.Results: The CST program had no significant effect on primary or secondary outcomes over 12 months. However, there was a significant increase in positive coping (P < .001), self-efficacy (P = .017), diabetes problem-solving and goals of diabetes self-management (P = .007, P = .001), and quality of life (P = .016) of school-aged children in the intervention group compared with the control group. There were no significant differences in primary or secondary outcomes between the intervention group and the control group (P > .05). Conclusions:The CST program was effective for school-aged children, improving psychosocial and diabetes self-management outcomes. Further research is needed to develop programs that improve outcomes in adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

Background: Smoking is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Smoking killed more than 6 million people, about 80% in the developing countries such as Pakistan in 2011. Now it has become major public health issue in the world.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 542 students at University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan from July to December 2015. The data were collected using a pre-tested, self-administered, validated questionnaire requiring information about socio-demographic characteristics, practice and patterns of cigarette smoking, knowledge about its harmful effects and attitude towards smoking control and prevention measures. Results: The prevalence of cigarette smoking among students was 49.5%. The mean age for starting cigarette smoking was 19.2±2.73 years. Cigarette smoking constituted 61.3% and shisha constituted 18.4%. The main reason for cigarette smoking was peer pressure (35.0%) followed by family influencing (24.5%). About 79.5% of the smokers had intension to quit smoking. There was no significant difference (p value=0.484) between prevalence of cigarette smoking in different faculties of University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The majority of the students (84.3%) knew that smoking is harmful for their health. However, rates of non-smoking students who knew the adverse effects of smoking were significantly higher than that of students who smoke. A high rate of students showed positive attitude towards smoking prevention and control measures.Conclusions: High prevalence of cigarette smoking was reported among students. There is a need to implement an anti-smoking program among students at University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Smoking behaviour is a problem that is often found in Indonesian society. The number of active smokers in Indonesia is increasing from year to year. Smoking can cause losses both in terms of socio-economic and health and even death. The aim this research is (1) to assess the prevalence of smoking cigarette among adult in Indonesia, and (2) to analizing relationship between health problem and smoking cigarette among adult in Indonesia. This is a cross-sectional study based on data extracted from the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey, 2017. A household-based survey, implemented in a representative probability sample of more than 47963 households from urban and rural areas in Indonesia. This research was analytic correlational study with Cross sectional approach. The sample of reserach were 18023 adult aged between 15 and 44 years. Relationship between health problem and smoking cigarette among adult in Indonesia was assessed by bivariate methods. Based on the results of the study found that most smokers have ages, residing in rural areas, secondary level education background, have a very poor wealth index level. The research findings found there is a relationship between age (p=0,001), type of residence (p=0,005), type of education (p=0,000), type of wealth index (p=0,000), and health problem related smoking behavior. The findings indicate that there is a relationship between complaints of short / rapid breath (p=0,001), and dont have relationship with nasal disorders and the presence or absence of cough with smoking behavior.
