Primary Adenocarcinoma of the Urinary Bladder

Abstract: Primary adenocarcinomas of the urinary bladder are uncommon, and the molecular pathways are currently not well defined. In this study, we assessed the association between biologic markers and clinicopathologic characteristics in a cohort of 21 patients with primary urinary bladder adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical staining for cell cycle-specific markers, including p53, p21, p27, Ki-67, and cyclin E, were performed on sections of a tissue microarray construct. The tumors were high grade in 12 (57%) and pT2 o… Show more

“…On histopathology it shows only increase in thickness of epithelium, but the cells does not exhibit cytologic atypia; feature also seen in papilloma. (13,14,15) During cystoscopy, PUNLMP lesions are less than 2 cm with papillary projections. Histopathologically, they show more than seven layer thick urothelium with cells without any cytological atypia.…”

“…Ki-67 is the most used proliferative marker, and it has been helpful for diagnosis, and determination of aggressiveness and prognosis of many cancers (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11). In CXPA, Ki-67 index can provide more objective criteria to distinguish atypical cells without malignant potential from the carcinomatous foci.…”

“…Cyclin E expression and, consequently, cyclin E/CDK2 activity is closely associated with the G1/S checkpoint (12). Various studies have indicated that cyclin E is overexpressed in several tumor cells, such as breast cancer cells, and it has been reported to be a prognostic biomarker (13,14). p27…”
