Primary Closure Techniques in Chronic Pilonidal Sinus

Abstract: Beside the various statistical considerations when using a pooled data analysis combining results from the literature, this overview suggests a significant benefit of asymmetric-oblique closure techniques or flap techniques in comparison with simple closure in the midline. Thus, we recommend an asymmetric closure technique for primary closure of a chronic pilonidal sinus. These asymmetric procedures provide better results than the simple closure in the natal midline. Furthermore, they are not as sophisticated … Show more

“…In recent studies, acquired factors are blamed for etiopathogenesis of the disease (2,3). Although there are many different opinions regarding the surgical treatment of pilonidal sinus disease in the literature, the common issues are that surgery should be simple and easily applicable, that the hospital length of stay should be short, with less postoperative wound care and pain, low recurrence rates and short period to return to daily activities (4)(5)(6). That is why various surgical techniques like sinotomy, marsupialization, Karydakis, oblique primary repair and flap techniques have been applied and compared for many years (7)(8)(9)(10)(11).…”

“…Por otro lado, respecto a las técnicas cerradas, los trabajos de Petersen y una revisión del Cochrane demuestran menor recidiva en las técnicas de cierre asimétrico 6,7 . Dentro de estas están colgajos de v-y, y los más utilizados los de Dufourmentel y Limberg 6 .…”
