“…The use of wide surgical margins, however, has not been demonstrated to have either a survival benefit or a decrease in the rate of local recurrence when compared to other surgical intervention. Recent literature has demonstrated the successful treatment of both types of superficial leiomyosarcoma with narrow margin excision 8,16 as well as with Mohs micrographic excision 7,11,17–20 . Interestingly, articles examining response to treatment commonly include both cutaneous and subcutaneous leiomyosarcoma subtypes, despite the previously noted differences in biologic behavior 7,11 .…”

“…There are 15 documented cases of excisions of LMS by MMS, including this series, and two documented recurrences overall (Table 3). 4,8–11 A recurrence rate of 13% for MMS compares favorably to that associated with wide excision and has the probable advantage of tissue sparing when compared with excisional margins of 2 to 5.0 cm. Fields and Helwig 3 commented that in their series, that LMSs that were excised widely enough to require skin grafting did not recur.…”

“…Only one patient in this series required use of a small full‐thickness skin graft because most of the defect was able to be closed primarily (case 3). MMS has previously been shown to be effective treatment of other spindle cell tumors 4–12 and has emerged as the treatment of choice for DFSP with a recurrence rate of 2% or less and significant tissue sparing 13–18 …”

“…Zur Tiefe ist die Exzision einschließlich des subkutanen Fettgewebes und der Faszie notwendig [2,3,11]. Im Gegensatz zu den abdominellen, retroperitonealen und von den großen Gefäßen ausgehenden Leiomyosarkomen ist die Prognose der kutanen Leiomyosarkome bei radikalem therapeutischen Vorgehen relativ günstig, wobei die Prognose von der Lokalisation des Primärtumors abhängt.…”
