Primary mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the pancreas

Abstract: Extraskeletal chondrosarcomas are rare and there is only one reported case of primary pancreatic chondrosarcoma. We report the case of a 34-year-old woman with a 6-month history of abdominal pain and distention. “…The reported prognosis for patients with primary pancreatic sarcomas is poor; the average 5-year survival rate is 15%-50%, depending on the type of sarcoma. However, this is better than the observed 5-year survival rate of 9% for patients with PDAC (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16).…”

“…Furthermore, the image features of this patient were unique. According to the 2 previous case reports, primary pancreatic chondrosarcoma manifests radiologically as a large tumor mass of mixed density with chondroid calcifications on computed tomography 1,2. Our case presented with a solid-cystic mass rather than a solid mass, and there was no apparent sign of calcification.…”

“…Distant metastasis is well known in leiomyosarcomas subtype. Although poor prognosis of primary pancreatic sarcomas patients was reported, but still better than the observed with those who has pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”
