Primary Radiometry for the mise-en-pratique: The Laser-Based Radiance Method Applied to a Pyrometer

Abstract: A new setup has been implemented at LCM-LNE-CNAM for the determination "of the spectral responsivity of radiation thermometers for the determination" of the thermodynamic temperature of high-temperature blackbodies at the temperature of a metal-carbon eutectic phase transition. In this new setup, an innovative acoustic-optic modulator feedback loop is used to stabilize the radiance of a wavelength tunable laser. The effect of residual optical interferences on the calibration of a test pyrometer is analyzed. Th… Show more

“…(ii) Calibration of the radiation thermometer at LNE-Cnam LNE-Cnam calibrated an LP3 radiation thermometer in terms of thermodynamic temperature using a set of HTFP cells which had been calibrated in terms of thermodynamic temperature using a dedicated absolute radiometric sprectroradiometer [28,29]. The HTFP cells used for the calibration of the LNE-Cnam LP3 radiation thermometer had the assigned thermodynamic temperatures given in table 3.…”

“…Here, instead of a narrow-band filter radiometer, a photometer with an absolutely calibrated illuminance responsivity and a colour correction, as determined by the photometry group of the National Metrology Institute of Australia (NMIA), is used to determine the blackbody temperature from the measured luminance. (iv) At the Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d'Essais (LNE, France) [42], the filter radiometer is realized not as a compact and single-wavelength device, but instead as a spectrally tuneable spectroradiometer based on a Czerny-Turner-type monochromator. This is calibrated using the radiance approach to a c-ESR, with Si photodiode trap detectors and a tuneable laser source with an integrating sphere.…”
