PRIMEIRO RELATO DE Francisella noatunensis SUBESPÉCIE ORIENTALIS NO SUL DO BRASIL – RELATO DE CASO

Abstract: RESUMOABSTRACT -The systemic visceral granuloma or franciselose is caused by Francisella noatunensis subspecies orientalis and F. noatunensis subspecies noatunensis. In Brazil, the first Francisella outbreak of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was recorded in the winters of 2012 and 2013 in the state of Minas Gerais. However, nothing was observed in the other producing regions. The aim of this study was to diagnose the causative agent of mortality Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in a production unit i… Show more

“…Since 2012, piscine francisellosis has been associated with high mortality in Southeast and South regions of Brazilian tilapia aquaculture farms, particularly during the winter (Leal, Tavares & Figueiredo ; Assis et al . ; Jatobá, Klipp & Hoppe ). Although there are reports of Fno from all ages of fish in Brazilian aquaculture, it particularly affects the juvenile phase, resulting in significant economic losses.…”

“…Native from the Levante area in Africa, the Nile Tilapia is a tropical cichlid that can tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions (El-Sayed, 2006). However, the immune system and metabolism can be impaired by low water temperature (below 20ºC), making it more susceptible to pathogens that can thrive in lower water temperatures, like the Fno, an emerging pathogen whose pathogenesis remains relatively unknown (Soto, Bowles, Fernandez, & Hawke, 2010;Leal, Tavares, & Figueiredo, 2014;Jatobá, Klipp, & Hoppe, 2016;Assis, Tavares, Pereira, Figueiredo, & Leal, 2017;Pereira, Tavares, Carvalho, Rosa, Rezende, Leal, & Figueiredo, 2019).…”

“…This pathogen affects mainly fry, fingerlings, and young adult fish, exhibiting multifocal granulomas in internal organs, mostly in the liver, spleen, and kidney (Ottem et al, 2009;Nguyen et al, 2016b). Cases of Fno in farm-raised tilapia have been reported in Taiwan (Chen et al, 1994), Costa Rica (Soto et al, 2009), Indonesia (Ottem et al, 2009), the UK (Jeffery et al, 2010), the USA (Soto et al, 2012b), and Brazil (Jatobá et al, 2016).…”
