Blockchain is the revolutionary invention of the twentieth century that offers a distributed and decentralized setting to communicate among nodes in a list of networks without a central authority. On the other hand, an electronic health records (EHRs) is the electronically stored health information in a digital format.EHRs are normally shared among healthcare stakeholders and facing power failure, data misuse, lack of privacy and security, and audit trail. Blockchain is a leading technology among others to address the limitations related to EHRs. It can provide a safer and secured decentralized environment for exchanging EHRs data. There are three categories of blockchain-based potential solutions have been proposed to handle EHRs: conceptual, prototype, and implemented. This study focused on a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to find and analyze articles proposed either conceptual or implemented to manage EHRs using blockchain. The study analyzed 99 papers that were described from various publication categories. The deep technical analysis focused on evaluating articles based on privacy, security, scalability, accessibility, cost, consensus algorithms, and type of blockchain used. The SLR found that the blockchain technology is promising to provide decentralization, security, and privacy that traditional EHRs often lack. Moreover, results obtained from the detailed studies would provide potential researchers with a reference as to which type of blockchain to choose for future development. Finally, future research directions, in the end, would direct enthusiasm to combine new blockchain-based systems to properly manage EHRs.

Blockchain has been an interesting area of exploration for some time and the advantages it provides have been exploited by a variety of different businesses. Basically, the medical service area has benefited greatly from blockchain innovations due to safety, security, confidentiality and decentralization. Overall, the Electronic Wellbeing Record (EHR) system addresses issues related to information security, honesty and fairness. In this paper, we talk about how blockchain innovation can be used to change the EHR framework and can be the answer to this problem. We present a system that can be used for the implementation of blockchain innovations in the field of medical services for EHR. The essence of our proposed system is first and foremost to implement blockchain innovations for EHR and in addition to provide secure electronic records capacity by characterizing granular access rules for clients of the proposed structure. Moreover, this structure also speaks to the flexibility issue that blockchain innovation sees as a whole through the use of the off-chain capacity of the record. This structure gives the EHR framework the advantage of having a blockchain-based setup that is versatile, secure, and basic. The information on the blockchain is apparent to everybody that is available on the chain this makes the information weak which is anything but an ideal result for a decentralized stage.

Barriers to blockchain adoption in health-care industry: an Indian perspective

Purpose This paper aims to identify barriers toward the adoption of blockchain (BC) technology in Indian health-care industry and also examines the significant issues of BC applications in health-care industry. Design/methodology/approach The barriers of the study are identified by two phases including the review of literature and semistructured interviews with hospital staff and administration operating in India. The experts (N = 15) are being taken from top-level management, IT experts and patients from the hospitals. The study implemented integrated total interpretative structural modeling-FUZZY-Cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (TISM-FUZZY-MICMAC) methods for identifying the interrelationship among the barriers. Findings A total of 15 barriers have been determined in the Indian health-care industry through discussion with the selected experts. TISM is applied to develop multilevel structure for BC barriers. Further, FUZZY-MICMAC has been used to compute driving and dependent barriers. The findings suggest that low awareness related to legal issues and low support from high level of management have maximum driving power. Research limitations/implications The present study applies multicriterion approach to identify the limited barriers in BC adoption in health care. Future studies may develop the relationship and mark down the steps for implementation of BC in health-care setting of a developing economy. Empirical study can be conducted to verify the results along with selected case studies. Practical implications The present study identifies the BC adoption barriers in health-care industry. The study examines the pertinent issues in context to major support required, bottlenecks in adoption, key benefits of adoption planning and activities. The technology adoption practices are expected to provide applications such as distributed, secured medical and clinical data and patient centric systems that will enhance the efficiency of the health-care industry. Originality/value The study is among few primary studies that identify and analyze the BC adoption in health-care industry.
