У статті аналізується зарубіжний дискурс стосовно феномена “контекстуальне навчання” (КН). Зазначається, що він активізується у контексті пошуку альтернатив конвенційним формам навчання з метою поліпшення якості освітнього процесу у царині соціогуманітаристики й ефективного застосування професійних знань у повсякденному житті. Прослідковуються витоки та еволюція контекстуального навчання, відтворюються теоретичні засади його розвитку й поширення у країнах Північної Америки, Європи та азійських країнах. Подається кілька визначень поняття “контекстуальне навчання”, на основі яких пропонується узагальнене його розуміння. Розглядаються стратегії, принципи та компоненти контекстуального навчання, що творять атмосферу результативного засвоєння нових знань, які необхідні для успішної взаємодії з довкіллям. У статті міститься шкіц курсу контекстуального навчання з етносоціології можливої освітньої програми магістерського рівня “Етнічні студії”.

This study aims to identify students' motivation in learning English through the Duolingo application, its effects, and what makes it different from conventional learning. The Duolingo application is free language acquisition and education for the world. The term acquisition itself is interpreted differently by language researchers. Some researchers distinguish between obtaining and learning. On the other hand, other researchers consider the term to be the same. In this study, researchers refer to the idea that they are the same. In conducting this research, researchers used case studies to analyze data. The researchers were selected five students of second-grade SMK Ngunut 1 Tulungagung who play of Duolingo application to get their second language motivation. Data was collected by direct observation and in-depth interviews with subjects who had two learning language experiences such as books and learning applications. The reason why choosing games as a factor in improving English learning in this study is because games have become one of the results of the development of popular technology in the community.

Duolingo is one of the modern applications that facilitate acquiring a second language.This research aims at invesitigating students’ motivation in writing through Duolingo as one of educational language tool. This study used descriptive qualitative method to explore and describe the phenomenon. Subjects of this study were 40 students of English department, which consisted of 10 male and 30 female. Data collection techniques in this study were interviews, while the data analysis techniques in this study were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The study revealed that the use of Duolingo application was quite effective to enhance the students’ motivation in writing. This study showed that Duolingo is an app where every beginner can start learning a second language as it motivates him / her to keep on making progress. Nevertheless, Duolingo also needs improvement to cover more vocabulary, grammar rules and languages, especially English, since it is the lingua franca of the world.
